National Institute for Materials Science
The National Institute for Materials Science will light a “Christmas Illumination” on the north wall of its Sengen Site Research Building from December 12 (Friday) through December 25 (Thursday).
Abstract
The National Institute for Materials Science (President: Prof. Teruo Kishi) will light a “Christmas Illumination” on the north wall of its Sengen Site Research Building from December 12 (Friday) through December 25 (Thursday). The Christmas Illumination was begun in 1993 by one of NIMS’s predecessor organizations, the National Research Institute for Metals, and will be discontinued after this year, which will be the 16th event in the series. On this occasion, NIMS wishes to thank all those concerned at Takezono Nishi Elementary School, who have cooperated up to the present, as well as all the local residents and others who have enjoyed the event each year. The design of this year’s Illumination was selected from among proposals by 6th grade students at the Takezono Nishi Elementary School in Tsukuba. The lighting ceremony is scheduled to begin at 17:30 on December 12 (Friday) with the participation of 6th graders from the Takezono Nishi Elementary School. Through this event, NIMS hopes to deepen its friendship with the local community and light up the night-time sky over Tsukuba, as one memory that will remain in the hearts of the students at the school, who will graduate in March of next year. The actual Illumination was constructed by NIMS staff members, who organized an executive committee for the project. Information on the period, etc. of the Illumination is given below.
