National Institute for Materials Science

The Nanotechnology Network Project is a commissioned project of Japan’s MEXT, under which 13 research centers with advanced nanotechnology facilities and equipment provide opportunities for researchers in industry, academia, and government to use those facilities, with the aim of creating research results which will lead to innovation. As part of project activities, the 8th International Symposium on Nanotechnology (Japan NANO 2010) will be held in February 2010.

Abstract

1. Scope of the Symposium and Expected Results

The purpose of Japan NANO 2010 in February is to address the environmental and energy problems which now confront all nations. To this end, the Symposium will present an overview of the current status of research and development in Japan and other countries aimed at solving these problems utilizing nanotechnology from actual research sites engaged in everyday research.
The Plenary Lecture will be delivered by Prof. Hiroshi Komiyama (Director General, Mitsubishi Research Institute), followed by invitational lectures by frontline researchers home and abroad from institutions participating in the Nanotechnology Network Project, who are involved in research utilizing nanotechnology to solve environmental and energy problems. The aim is to create a platform for wider knowledge of topics and trends in nanotechnology research related to environmental and energy problems.
