National Institute for Materials Science

As part of its efforts to improve the intellectual infrastructure under its Five-year Plan, NIMS recently issued two new fatigue data sheets, “NIMS FATIGUE DATA SHEET No. 116, Data sheet on giga-cycle fatigue properties of hydrogen-charged SCM440 (0.4-1Cr-0.2Mo) steel for mechanical structural use” and one other.

Abstract

The National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS; President: Sukekatsu Ushioda), as part of its efforts to improve the intellectual infrastructure under its Five-year Plan, issued the following two data sheets on March 31, 2012:

  1. “NIMS FATIGUE DATA SHEET No. 116
Data sheet on giga-cycle fatigue properties of hydrogen-charged SCM440 (0.4-1Cr-0.2Mo) steel for mechanical structural use”
  2. “NIMS FATIGUE DATA SHEET No. 117
Data sheet on giga-cycle fatigue properties of FCD400 and FCD800 spheroidal graphite cast iron”

In these recently-issued data sheets, No. 116 clarifies the giga-cycle fatigue properties of hydrogen-charged SCM440 (0.4-1Cr-0.2Mo) steel for mechanical structural use up to 109 (1 billion) cycles obtained with a servo-hydraulic fatigue tester (30Hz) and an ultrasonic fatigue tester (20kHz).
No. 117 clarifies the fatigue properties of the spheroidal (nodular) graphite cast iron materials FCD400 and FCD800 up to 1010 (10 billion) cycles obtained with a servo-hydraulic fatigue tester (30Hz) and an ultrasonic fatigue tester (20kHz).
NIMS conducts its data sheet publication business in accordance with an ISO 9001 “Quality management system” (JIS Q 9001, “Quality management system”), which was certified on May 20, 2002.
