The NTHU was located in Hsingchu, about 70 km south west from Taipei. It was first established as the Tsing Hua Academy at Tsing Hua Garden in Beijing in 1911, and reinstalled on its current campus in 1956. The Department of Materials Science and Engineering is one of the biggest departments in NTHU, having approximately 1000 students and a number of world-leading academic staffs.

Under the MOU, the High Temperature Materials Unit will promote collaborations for developing high entropy alloys for high temperature use. The concept of high entropy alloys was first proposed by Prof. Jien –Wei Yeh in NTHU, and currently researchers all over the world are taking much interest in the high entropy alloys. It is expected that the MOU will trigger further collaborations between NTHU and NIMS.
