NIMS Researcher Awarded the IUPAP Young Scientist Prize in Magnetism

Dr. Masamitsu Hayashi, senior research scientist of NIMS, the Magnetic materials unit, was awarded the IUPAP Young Scientist Prize in Magnetism at the 20th International Conference on Magnetism (ICM) held at the Palau de Congressos de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain on Jul. 7th.

This award recognizes outstanding contributions to the areas of magnetism. Dr. Hayashi won the prize for “the pioneering work on domain wall dynamics in magnetic nanowires and contributions to the development of current controlled magnetism in magnetic heterostructures using spin orbit effects”.  His work has contributed to advancing the understanding of electrical control of the magnetization direction of nanoscale magnets, which is a crucial technology for next generation information storage and computation devices.
