The theme of this year’s conference was “Structure Control of Atomic/Molecular Thins Films and Their Applications”. Latest information such as discoveries and use of new materials, related synthesis methods and sophisticated characterization tools were introduced.

At the beginning of the conference, NIMS Award 2013 was given to Prof. Hideo Hosono of Tokyo Institute of Technology (TITECH), who has been doing pioneering research in the field of this area, and award-winning lecture was given by him followed by the ceremony.
Subsequently, 5 Plenary Lectures were made by the prominent researchers who represented the research fields of the 5 Organized Sessions, “Organic Layer Electronics - Organic Material and Interface -”, “Ultra-Thin Film Technology”, “Nano-scale Characterization”, “Atomic Layer Deposition Technology and Its Application” and “Advanced Fusion Materials: New Functionality by Cooperative Organic/Inorganic Compositions”

On the second and third day, 43 researchers from home and abroad presented their cutting-edge research at the 5 Organized Sessions and Poster Session was held on the second day. There were more than 100 poster presentations mainly by young scientists and 10 presenters won Best Poster Awards just after the lively discussion during the Session on the day.

Active discussions were held in all sessions respectively during the three days.
This year there were topics relevant to each other among the 5 sessions from the aspects of materials, characterization and composition so that more than 550 people attended from universities and industry throughout the days. Many participants highly appreciated that the conference was very fruitful and cross-cutting in terms of both quality and quantity.
