The Nanotechnology Network is sponsoring the 10th International Symposium on Nanotechnology (JAPAN NANO 2010).
Abstract
Nanotechnology Network Japan is a project which was commissioned by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) with the aim of creating research results that will lead to innovation. Under this project, 13 research centers (26 institutes) with advanced nanotechnology facilities and equipment are providing opportunities to use those facilities to researchers in industry, academia, and government. As part of project activities, the Nanotechnology Network is sponsoring the 10th International Symposium on Nanotechnology (JAPAN NANO 2010).
1. Content of JAPAN NANO 2012 and Expected Results
JAPAN NANO 2012 will focus on a range of urgent issues, which became clear following the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, for building a society with the strength to withstand natural disasters. , These include ensuring a sustainable energy supply, decentralized energy sources, and developing structures for civil works and building construction which are capable of withstanding earthquakes and tsunamis. Therefore, the content of this year’s symposium surveys the status of research and development in Japan and other countries to solve these problems using nanotechnology.
Plenary Lectures will be delivered by invited speakers Prof. Hiroyuki Yoshikawa of the Japan Science and Technology Agency, who is also a former President of the University of Tokyo, and Dr. Kazuo Kyuma, an Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Electric Corporation. They will address the role of science and technology in recovery from disasters, issues for securing a stable energy supply, and related topics. A number of frontline researchers have also been invited from Japan and other countries, and will discuss recent progress in research and development on renewal sources of electric energy, structural materials for seismic safety, and other timely subjects. In parallel, poster presentations on main research topics and their achievements of the Nanotechnology Network Japan will be made. The outlines on the Low-Carbon Research Network Japan will be also presented by posters.
